      The Child & Adult Care Food Program is administed at the federal level by the United States Department of Agrilculture and at the State level by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Division of Food and Nutrition. The primary intent of the program is to improve the health and nutrition of children and adults, while promoting the development of good eating habits through the use of nutrition education, for eligible children and adults in nonresidential institutions that provide care.

     Armstrong County Community Action Agency administers the CACFP sponcership, held by the county that sponsors Family Child Care and Group Child Care Providers who wish to participate in the food program. Any certified Family Child Care or Group Child Care Provider may participate.

Benefits of participation:

  • Reimbursement of meals served to enrolled participants.
  • Technical assistance for administration of the CACFP.
  • Nutrition education materials.
  • Annual training sessions and workshops.

Children in child care are eligible to participate if they are:

  • Birth to 12 years of age.
  • Migrant children birth to15 years of age.
  • Special needs children over 12 years of age.

Provider requirements for participation:

  • Ensure that meals served meet the meal pattern requirements and meal times.
  • File accurate claims for reimbursements.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of food.

Reimbursement:

  • Facilities may recieve reimbursement for up to 2 meals and 1 snack per participant per day.
  • Reimbursement is based on the type of meal served and the number of meals served.
  • Reimbursement rates are adjusted annually.

The CACFP Office is located on Water Street in Manorville and is open Monday thru Friday from 800 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
