Employment Training ProgramHome > Employment Training Program724-548-5764 Armstrong County Community Action Agency has been operating an "Employment Training Program" for over 20 years. It began in 1983 as a strictly voluntary program and proved to be very successful. The workshops were held three times a week, which included a beginners computer class. The volunteers simply needed an evaluation of their skills, a word of encouragement, a resume writing class and an introduction to employers in need of their skills. Our successful candidates are scattered all over the county and Community Action is proud to know they saw a need and answered the call long before it became a State Program. In 1994 "Welfare Reform" began and the need to find "jobs" for people receiving cash assistance became a priority in Pennsylvania and all of the other forty-nine states. To date, we have operated eight different Employment Programs. All of the Employment programs have been received through the writing of State Grants. These programs have contained an assortment of requirements and a multitude of personality types. The rules of the program were such, that Community Action was required to place, no less than 50% of the clients in gainful employment. Our placement rate is 60 - 75%.
